NERC Environment Yes Competition | Royal Meteorological Society

Closing Date 19 July

  • Do you want to stand out from the crowd and gain skills your peers don't have?
  • Do you want to improve your employment prospects and earn more?
  • Do you want to know how to make money from your research and be an entrepreneur?

If your answer to any of these questions is 'YES' then the Environment YES competition is for you!
The Environment Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (Environment YES) is an innovative competition for postgraduate and postdoctoral scientists which raises awareness of the commercialisation of ideas from the environmental sciences. The competition is organised jointly by UNIEI ? The Haydn Green Institute and Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
Participants attend a half day briefing session to introduce the scheme before attending the three day residential workshop encompassing presentations and mentoring sessions. At the end of the three day workshop, teams make a presentation of their business plan to the panel of investors. A team from each workshop is selected to progress through to the Environment YES final in London on Monday 2 December.
Environment YES is FREE to enter ? travel, accommodation and meals included.
The format

  • Participants form teams of 4 or 5
  • Each team devises a business plan for a company based on hypothetical science
  • The team then presents their idea to a panel of investors
